"Today [Nov. 29], the plenary of Brazil's Supreme Federal Court (STF, for its acronym in Portuguese) created a precedent that establishes criteria allowing press outlets to be held responsible for statements made by interviewees that falsely attribute crimes to third parties.
The punishment, according to the court, will only take place in cases of 'concrete evidence of falsehood' of the accusation or if the news outlet failed to observe the 'duty of care' in verifying the facts and disseminating such evidence."
