"The Coalition in Defense of Journalism (CDJor) publicly condemns the recent lawsuits that resulted in the removal of journalistic content produced by InfoAmazonia and Jornal Plural. CDJor expresses concern about the use of the Judiciary to restrict press freedom and the ongoing risk that such measures pose to freedom of expression in Brazil.

InfoAmazonia had a post removed from its Instagram account by court order from the Rondônia State Court. The affected post summarized the main points of the article 'Rondônia's Environmental Secretary Brokered Sale of Area in Conservation Unit to His Own Wife.'

The Curitiba-based newspaper Jornal Plural was also subject to a court order requiring it to remove two reports about URBS (Urbanização de Curitiba S.A.) and the Integrated Transportation Network. The injunction, granted by the Paraná court on Oct. 1, 2025, imposed a daily fine of R$1,000 if the content remained on the website.

In both cases, the media was fulfilling its duty to keep society informed and foster debate on issues of public interest. The removed and contested content involves investigations into public officials and agencies (an environmental secretary and URBS) who, by virtue of their role, must subject themselves to broad public scrutiny and tolerate criticism directed at them."
