"The Brazilian Association of Investigative Journalism (Abraji, by its Portuguese acronym), together with other organizations for the defense of Indigenous peoples and press freedom, which denounced to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) the murders of Indigenous activist Bruno Pereira and British journalist Dom Philips, in the Amazon, said once again there are problems with the investigation of the deaths and more risks of violence in the region.
On June 11, the IACHR granted a precautionary measure in the case. It recommended the Brazilian State redouble its efforts to search for the victims and guarantee a full investigation of the facts. It also called for implementing actions to prevent the repetition of the human rights violations found. The Brazilian government, however, responded to the Commission claiming the case would conclude with the location of the bodies and the confirmation of the deaths. It also requested the termination of the precautionary measure granted."
