“Journalist Marcelo Auler had his bank accounts frozen and emptied on the 14th of this month after being ordered to pay damages to Judge Márcia Regina Hernandez de Lima of the 3rd Family Court of Pinhais (PR). The judgment stemmed from articles published in 2018 on the Blog do Marcelo Auler and in the Jornal do Brasil.
In addition to the freezing of his personal and business accounts, Auler's reports were censored, and he is prohibited from discussing the case brought by the judge. The proceedings are classified as confidential.
Auler's defense argues that the case amounts to censorship and claims that the Paraná court's decision violates Supreme Court jurisprudence, which prohibits the freezing of wage or retirement accounts below 40 times the minimum wage.”
