"The Civil Police of Santa Catarina [in Brazil] is demanding The Intercept Brasil reveal the sources of its reporting on the Mari Ferrer case, written by reporter Schirlei Alves in 2020. The text reported on humiliations suffered in court by influencer Mariana Ferrer, who declared that she was a victim of rape in 2018. The Intercept denied the request.
The police's demands are part of an investigation into the alleged leak of information in the legal process in the Mari Ferrer case. In a text published last week, The Intercept revealed that the police are demanding 'detailed identification of the sources of information used in preparing the report, including data indicating the origin of the confidential content mentioned,' as well as 'information on how the material disclosed was obtained.'"
