Brazilian presidential communications agency paid almost U.S. $600,000 to broadcast false and misleading Bolsonaro speeches

"A report by fact-checking agency Aos Fatos revealed that Secom [Special Secretariat for Social Communication of the Brazilian Presidency] paid 3.2 million reais [more than U.S. $590,000] to Brazil's public communication company [EBC], between January and May of this year, to broadcast events in which Bolsonaro disseminated at least 287 false and misleading statements. The amount corresponds to a quarter of the total transferred by the agency to EBC in the period, which was 12.4 million reais [about U.S. $2.3 million] and includes services to ministries and production of content such as the program The Voice of Brazil, broadcast on the national radio network by law.

[...]

The amounts were spent on services such as live broadcasting, image recording, simultaneous translation, satellite transmission, use of fiber optics and use of the encoder (equipment for live broadcasts). EBC maintains a payment contract with Secom to broadcast the events attended by the President and other members of the Government."
