"From the dissemination of manipulated data amplified by troll accounts to the establishment of coordinated disinformation networks, governments are increasingly involved in dishonest practices in virtual spaces. This phenomenon has repercussions in everyday life, going beyond a digital scenario with misleading narratives that feed social polarization.
In this scenario, the role of the independent press is key to unmask the machinery that is sustained with public resources and reproduces manipulation. IWPR is opening a reflection space to learn about this issue through specific cases detected in countries such as Mexico, Venezuela and Bolivia.
The free virtual meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 18, 2023 at 10:00 [CST] MEX/HON/GUA, 11:00 PE/COL, 12:00 VE. Panelists Samedi Aguirre (Animal Político/Mexico), Pablo Medina (Centro Latinoamericano de Investigación Periodística) and Adrián González (Cazadores de Fake News/Venezuela), will share strategies used to investigate the phenomenon of state disinformation in Latin America. In order to participate, you must register at this link."
