"On the sixth anniversary of the killing of Brazilian journalist Lourenço 'Léo' Veras, the Institute for Environmental Law and Economics (Instituto de Derecho y Economía Ambiental – IDEA) and Media Defence have submitted a petition to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), concerning the responsibility of the Paraguayan State in relation to his death and the lack of due diligence in the investigation, prosecution and conviction of both the material and intellectual perpetrators.
On Feb. 12, 2020, while having dinner with his wife, his son, and father-in-law in Pedro Juan Caballero, Paraguay, Léo Veras was attacked by masked gunmen who stormed his home and shot him 12 times. He was taken to the local hospital and died shortly afterwards."
