“Chilean Prosecutor's Office requested this Monday [Sept. 7] 25 years in prison for Marcelo Naranjo after the start of the oral arguments in the trial for the murder of journalist Francisca Sandoval on May 1, 2022.
'The Fourth Oral Criminal Court of Santiago begins arguments in a case against Marcelo Enrique Naranjo for the murder of the journalist during the International Workers' Day 2022; in addition to carrying a firearm and unjustified shooting', the Judicial Power said.
The entity says Sandoval is the first journalist in the country murdered under democracy while carrying out her professional duties, and added that during a march, there was a confrontation between the people protesting and a group of merchants of the iconic Barrio Meiggs in Santiago, who used violence to prevent the march from passing."
