Citizen journalist Jaime Vásquez murdered in Cúcuta, Colombia

"Jaime Vásquez, a Colombian social leader and journalist, was murdered this Sunday morning [April 14] in [the neighborhood] La Riviera, [in the city of] Cúcuta. Images from security cameras show the moment in which he was attacked by hitmen, with three fatal shots. [...] President Gustavo Petro condemned the murder and asked prosecutor's to carry out ‘the most thorough investigation that should include the forensic examination of the information on his cell phone, which was apparently manipulated by officials after his death.’

Vásquez was a 'recognized social leader, lawyer and overseer' of Cúcuta and carried out ‘investigations on corruption issues in public entities.’ He stood out for his constant denunciations of acts of corruption in the governor's office of the [department] Norte de Santander. He had recently published on Facebook an investigation into corruption in the appointment of the manager of the hospital of [the municipality of] Pamplona."
