Clashes between protesters and police in Peru leave at least six journalists injured

"The protest against the Peruvian government and Congress organized by young people and other social groups on Saturday [Sept. 20] in Lima left 12 police officers injured, six attacks on journalists, as reported by the National Association of Journalists (ANP, by its acronym in Spanish), and more than a dozen protesters injured, although there are no official figures on the total number.

The demonstration took place in the historic center of the Peruvian capital on Saturday afternoon, and as the hours passed, there were clashes and riots that left at least one person detained and 14 attendees injured by rubber bullets fired by the Peruvian National Police (PNP), according to volunteer health brigades.

The National Association of Journalists of Peru expressed its strong rejection of 'the excessive and disproportionate measures used by PNP officers in containing social mobilizations, which constitute acts of clear repression.'"
