"It is a cause for concern that one year after the Inter-American Court of Human Rights announced the sentence in which it condemned the Colombian State in the case of journalist Jineth Bedoya Lima, the Attorney General's Office is the entity that has made the least effort to comply with the Court's ruling and, thus, investigate, prosecute and punish all those responsible for the crimes committed against the journalist.

One year ago, on Oct. 18, 2021, the Inter-American Court published its ruling in the case of journalist Jineth Bedoya Lima, who on May. 25, 2000, was a victim of kidnapping, torture and sexual violence. The Court determined that Colombia violated, among others, her rights to judicial guarantees, judicial protection and equality before the law, given the lack of due diligence in the investigations.

To date, the mastermind of the incident and other co-perpetrators who may have participated have not been identified."
