"We reject and express our deep concern over the serious safety risk faced by journalist Edward Fabián Álvarez Rivera of La Chiva de Urabá. Since February 22, he has received death threats on social media from an individual identifying themselves as ‘El Tigre,’ a commander of a front of the National Liberation Army, demanding he delete two articles published by his outlet. Due to these threats, Álvarez Rivera was forced to leave the region of Urabá in the department of Antioquia.
Álvarez Rivera was the subject of threats for three consecutive days, sent to his WhatsApp number and the Facebook page of his news outlet. Each message included a deadline to comply with the demand to remove the news content, under threat of retaliation. This alarming situation has forced Álvarez Rivera to temporarily suspend his reporting and has caused emotional distress for him and his family."
