Colombian reporter survives Russian attack that left 11 dead in restaurant in Ukraine

Colombian journalist Catalina Gómez Ángel, correspondent for Radio France Internationale (RFI) and the France 24 network on the war in Ukraine, was non-seriously injured in the attack carried out by Russian forces on Tuesday (June 27) that left at least 11 dead and 50 wounded at a restaurant in the eastern Ukrainian city of Kramatorsk.

At the time of the attack, Ukrainian writer Victoria Amelina, who is in serious condition, Colombian writer Hector Abad, who also suffered minor injuries, and Colombian politician Sergio Jaramillo were also dining at the restaurant. According to Ukrainian media, foreign military instructors and aid workers also frequented the establishment.

"What we are seeing now are scenes of terror. There are many wounded, some seriously. We are still alive by a miracle. This is a place with many civilians, but with many battle fronts in the surrounding area," Gómez Ángel said in a video recorded shortly after the attack. Located west of the devastated city of Bakhmut, Kramatorsk has already been hit by several Russian bombings. In the most lethal, which hit a railway station on April 8, 2022, 63 people were killed and more than 150 were injured.
