"In a controversial decision, [Colombia's] Supreme Court of Justice acquitted Ronal Harbey Rivera Rodríguez, a former detective with the Administrative Department of Security (DAS, for its initials in Spanish), who had been prosecuted for his alleged involvement in the psychological torture of journalist Claudia Julieta Duque.
[...]
The case is rooted in Duque's investigation into the murder of journalist and comedian Jaime Garzón, which occurred on Aug. 13, 1999. In her reports, the journalist linked the DAS to this crime, which triggered a series of harassment attacks against her. In August 2024, the Tenth Criminal Court of the Specialized Circuit of Bogotá sentenced José Miguel Narváez, former deputy director of the DAS, to 12 years and five months in prison for ordering surveillance and death threats against Duque.

The acquittal of Rivera Rodríguez, who belonged to the Special Intelligence Group 3 (G-3) of the DAS, was questioned by the FLIP [Foundation for Press Freedom], which argued that the Court ignored key evidence linking him to the illegal operations against Duque."
