"Community journalist Jorge Méndez, known as 'Jeykon the leader,' was murdered this Thursday (June 27) in a rural area of the municipality of Tibú, in the Colombian department of Norte de Santander, which borders Venezuela, as reported by the Foundation for Press Freedom (FLIP).
'Jorge was well-known in the Catatumbo region because he managed the page La Garraba con una Mirada Diferete ('La Gabarra with a Different View'). On this platform, he had over 650,000 followers and shared positive information about La Gabarra and nearby municipalities,' the organization added in a message published on its X account.
So far, the authorities have not provided more details about the social leader's murder. According to preliminary data, his body was found with gunshot wounds and signs of torture. He was discovered on a rural road next to the car in which he was traveling."
