"The Cuban Institute for Freedom of Expression and the Press (ICLEP, for its Spanish initials) publicly denounces a new act of repression that occurred on March 1, 2026, in the Dobarganes neighborhood of Villa Clara province, which constitutes a direct violation of the legitimate exercise of press freedom in Cuba.

According to information documented by our monitoring network, Lázaro Pérez Rodríguez and Luis Sotolongo Iglesias, contributors to the community media outlet Páginas Villareñas, were arbitrarily detained, threatened and had their materials and equipment confiscated in retaliation for distributing issue 137 of the ICLEP newsletter."
