Convicted murderer of Chilean journalist Francisca Sandoval sentenced to 24 years in prison

“The murderer of Francisca Sandoval, the first Chilean journalist murdered since the return to democracy in 1990, was sentenced Monday [Oct. 28] to 24 years in prison as the perpetrator of the crime, the Chilean Judiciary reported.

'The Fourth Oral Criminal Court of Santiago sentenced Marcelo Naranjo Naranjo to 15 years in prison for the simple homicide of reporter Francisca Sandoval, in addition to four years for illegal possession of a firearm and five years for unjustified shooting in the street,' the Judiciary said in a statement.

The Public Prosecutor's Office together with the victim's family had requested 30 years in prison during the trial."
