“In Latin America, Reporters Without Borders lamented that journalists continue to report in an ‘increasingly poisonous and toxic’ environment, in the 2022 edition of its world press freedom ranking.
‘Distrust in the press, fueled by anti-media rhetoric and the trivialization of stigmatizing politicians' speeches,’ especially in Brazil (110th), Cuba (173rd), Venezuela (159th), Nicaragua (160th), and El Salvador ( 112th), ‘has gained more ground,’ it pointed out.
‘These public attacks, increasingly visible and virulent, undermine the profession and encourage abusive judicial procedures, smear and intimidation campaigns - especially against women - and online harassment of critical journalists,’ it stressed.”
