“Artículo 19 condemns the wave of repression the Cuban state has undertaken since September against independent journalists from digital media in Cuba. This has worsened with the implementation of the Social Communication Law on October 4, 2024.
On October 4, Cuban digital media outlets El Toque, Cubanet, Periodismo de Barrio, and Magazine AM denounced a series of abuses they have been subjected to in recent days, such as arbitrary detentions, summonses for illegal and prolonged interrogations, threats of legal prosecution, confiscation of personal and work-related belongings, extortion to surrender dollars 'received' from foreign agents, coercion to self-incriminate for acting against the regime through psychological torture, and pressure to force them to abandon their journalistic work."
