The editor of the digital newspaper Hondudiario, Arístides Aceituno, denounced on Friday, Jan. 31, that he is wanted by the International Police (Interpol), due to a lawsuit against him filed by the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Armed Forces of Honduras, Roosevelt Hernández.
Apparently, the lawsuit stems from a report published this year about alleged disagreements within the Honduran Armed Forces due to Hernández's positions in favor of President Xiomara Castro's government.
Aceituno told Proceso Digital news site that the action against him is “dangerous for freedom of expression” and that he intends to file a complaint before national and international human rights organizations. For its part, the College of Journalists of Honduras (CPH, for its initials in Spanish) expressed solidarity with Aceituno, and expressed “extreme concern” about the lawsuit against him.
