"Fernando Villavicencio has been murdered. The presidential candidate for the Construye movement and former Assemblyman was the victim of a hired assassination on Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 9, 2023, while participating in a political rally in the coliseum, located at the intersection of Gaspar de Villaroel and Amazonas avenues, north center of Quito. Villavicencio was a union member of PetroEcuador and in 1999 he was fired. Before joining the Assembly, he was part of the portal Periodismo de Investigación [Investigative Journalism]. There, he had bylines in0 some stories on the Green Rice Case, which became the investigation Bribes 2012-2016, for which former President Rafael Correa and other officials were sentenced to prison; the Odebrecht Case , among others."
