"After several threats of attacks against their physical and personal integrity, journalists Mónica Velásquez and Andersson Boscán left Ecuador for a safe country.
Fundamedios had access to a letter written by the journalists detailing the different threats to which they have been exposed. According to them, since October 2021 they received a first threat from organized crime and even the daughters of Boscán and Velásquez were photographed. However, they explained that after an investigation called 'El gran padrino [The great godfather]' in which the president's brother-in-law, Guillermo Lasso, was allegedly involved in a corruption and drug trafficking scheme, these threats intensified.
The sources, which the journalists attributed to 'foreign intelligence,' warned them that an operative group of the Albanian mafia arrived in the country in the last days of last week with the order to make an attempt on their lives and those of other people. This information was corroborated by police sources in the media."
