“Ecuadoran journalist Leonardo Rivas, news director of the digital radio station Cariñosa, was murdered on Saturday [Nov. 23] in an attack attributed to hitmen in the province of Guayas, one of the most affected by the insecurity crisis in Ecuador.
The radio station confirmed the tragic event on its Facebook account, saying that Rivas was 'victim of a tragic hitman-style violent act' on the road to [the city of] Daule.
This Sunday, the Andean Foundation for the Observation and Study of Media (Fundamedios) condemned the murder and demanded that the authorities conduct a thorough investigation to identify and bring to justice those responsible for this attack, which represents a serious blow to freedoms of expression and of the press.”
