"A journalist from newspaper Prensa Gráfica faced a series of violations for her journalistic practice caused by the Mayor of El Refugio in Ahuachapán [western zone of El Salvador], Darwin Regalado, and sympathizers of the Nuevas Ideas party, this in the context of the 2024 elections.
On Jan. 5, 2024, the journalist met for an interview with Wilfredo Barrientos, former mayor and current councilor of the mayor's office of El Refugio.
According to the journalist, a vehicle parked in front of the main entrance of the place where he was conducting said interview, at that moment, Darwin Regalado took out his cell phone and took photographs of him. 'I immediately went out to ask him why he was photographing me and what he wanted, and he continued taking photos of me and responded by pointing his index finger at me in a threatening manner 'because you broke into the mayor's office.'"
