El Salvador's Supreme Court authorizes extradition request for Colonel Reyes Mena, accused of murdering four Dutch journalists

"Pedro Cruz, lawyer for the families of four Dutch journalists murdered on March 17, 1982, reported today that the Dulce Nombre María court notified them that the Supreme Court of Justice approved the extradition request for Colonel Mario Adalberto Reyes Mena, one of the main people accused of ordering the quadruple murder.

'The Dulce Nombre María court has just reported that it was informed yesterday by the Supreme Court of Justice that in a session at the end of February the Court voted for the extradition of Colonel Mario Adalberto Reyes Mena. It has already formally initiated the extradition process for this former commander of the fourth infantry brigade, who currently resides in the United States. And it orders the Attorney General's Office to issue the corresponding documents so that this man is extradited to El Salvador,' Cruz explained.

With this progress, all that remains is to wait for the Attorney General's Office to request Reyes Mena from the United States based on a bilateral treaty that exists between both countries for the extradition of Salvadoran and American citizens."
