"The life of independent journalist Lázaro Yuri Valle Roca is in danger. Since the 15th of this month, he has been held incommunicado and under investigation in the headquarters of the political police known as Villa Marista, in Havana, where it is presumed he is being tortured and is on hunger strike.

Valle Roca was misleadingly summoned last Tuesday [June] 15 to the unit of the National Revolutionary Police (PNR, for its acronym in Spanish) known as Zapata y C, to allegedly close a case for an alleged crime of desacato that had been open since 2020.

'When we got to Zapata we realized that everything was a trap to send him to prison and at five in the afternoon they notify him that he is going to Villa Marista under an investigative process,' said to ICLEP Valle Roca's wife, Eralidis Frómeta, who was beaten by several officers of the political police in the PNR unit in order to take away Valle Roca's cell phone. Moments before being transferred, the journalist had given it to her and assured that he would go on a hunger strike in Villa Marista."
