Fifteenth journalist shot dead in Mexico: Fredid Román

"Journalist Fredid Román has been shot dead Mon. aft. on Aug. 2, in downtown Chilpancingo, the capital of Guerrero state in Mexico. Authorities have only confirmed his death, inside his car, sitting in the driver's seat. Some close friends say that the crime was committed at the doorstep of his home where he also produced the weekly La Realidad. Román is the 15th reporter murdered so far this year in Mexico. The most dangerous country in which to work as a journalist has broken a macabre record. Never before have so many reporters been murdered in the country.

The news was shared by his colleagues on social media: Román, a veteran journalist from the state of Guerrero, had been riddled with bullets. A man in his 60s, 'short, with a mustache and very, very cheerful,' his friend, journalist Rosario García, said about him from the other side of the phone. It had only been 40 minutes since her colleague was shot. The previous week, they met at a political event. He never mentioned to her that he had received any threats, García said."
