It is not fair to take our lives for denouncing corruption,' Oaxaca Isthmus journalist Rodolfo Canseco said. Family, friends and colleagues said goodbye on Feb. 13 at the municipal cemetery of Salina Cruz, Oaxaca to Heber López Vásquez, founder and director of the Noticias Web news outlet.
The first 40 days of 2022 have been dark and desolate for journalists from north to south of Mexico. At first it was Tijuana and now Oaxaca, and the violence is growing. Heber is the fifth journalist murdered in this country.
On Feb. 10, 39-year-old Heber López Vásquez was shot to death when he was with his 12-year-old son inside his office. Judiciary authorities reported two detainees are being held for this crime in the Tlacolula prison, Oaxaca."
