"The Argentine Journalism Forum (FOPEA, for its acronym in Spanish) expressed its rejection and concern regarding the decision by the Tucumán court to impose a gag order on Gustavo Olarte, director of the Closed Circuit Television Company (CCC), as well as on the company's producers, journalists and presenters. The court order prohibits them from disseminating any content that 'insults or discredits' the work of prosecutors, officials or judges of the provincial judiciary.
The ruling was issued by acting judge Lucas Alfredo Taboada, based on a criminal complaint filed by Attorney General Edmundo 'Pirincho' Jiménez, head of the Public Prosecutor's Office. Jiménez brought charges against Olarte for alleged crimes of obstruction and offense against the exercise of public functions, institutional coercion and public incitement to violence or institutional discrediting.
The precautionary measure will be in effect for six months and covers all journalistic staff of the channel, ordering the immediate cessation of the dissemination, through any television, radio, digital or social media platform, of content critical of the judicial proceedings. Furthermore, the ruling stipulates that the National Communications Agency (ENACOM) will oversee its compliance."
