Study by Argentine Journalism Forum reveals troubling reality of violence against women journalists

"On March 11, the Argentine Journalism Forum (FOPEA, for its initial in Spanish) presented the results of the investigation 'Threatened Journalists: Researching to Protect Them,' a multiple-case study aimed at analyzing in-depth the situation of women journalists in the country, their career paths, and the violence they face daily in the exercise of their profession.

Through the analysis of anonymous surveys of 215 journalists from Argentina's 23 provinces and the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, complemented by in-depth interviews, FOPEA has obtained a detailed view of this troubling reality, prompting us to take action to prevent and eradicate it.

One of the central findings of the research exposes the multiple forms of violence suffered by women journalists simply because of their gender. We have identified an alarming variety of types and forms, including psychological violence (experienced by 150 of those surveyed), harassment (acknowledged by 156), institutional violence (132), economic violence (130) and online violence (124). "
