"The former mayor of Chínipas, Chihuahua, Hugo Amed Schultz was sentenced to 8 years in prison for his responsibility in the murder of journalist Miroslava Breach, which occurred in March 2017.
According to the organization Propuesta Cívica, in a hearing related to the request for an abbreviated procedure, the Special Prosecutor's Office for Crimes committed against Freedom of Expression (FEADLE) accused Hugo Amed Schultz of the crime of homicide in his intervention as an auxiliary participant, and asked the judge for a sentence of 8 years in prison, as well as full reparation for the damage, consisting of financial compensation and a public apology.
The former mayor of Chínipas accepted the facts of the accusation and his criminal responsibility, as well as the requested sentence (in the case of an abbreviated procedure, there is the benefit of reducing the years in prison that the law establishes for the crime in question)."
