"The Attorney General's Office (FGR, by its Spanish acronym) [of Mexico] announced this Thursday [July 13] the arrest of Adolfo Karam Beltrán, former director of the Judicial Police of the state of Puebla, for the crime of torture against Mexican journalist Lydia Cacho in 2005, after she published an investigation.
The Attorney General's Office, through the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for Human Rights (FEMDH) and elements of the Criminal Investigation Agency (AIC), served an arrest warrant against Hugo Adolfo K for his probable responsibility in the crime of torture against a journalist," the Attorney General's Office said in a statement.
The arrest, added the institution, is due to sufficient evidence to prove the alleged responsibility of the detainee in the crime of torture against the journalist. The facts he is accused of, correspond to his probable participation in an organized power structure within the Executive of the state of Puebla, with the purpose of affecting the personal dignity of a journalist, derived from the publication of a book-form journalistic investigation,' the document said."
