Freedom or bullets: 20 journalists silenced in Paraguay in 30 years

"The murder of radio broadcaster and journalist Humberto Coronel by a hit man in Pedro Juan Caballero, last Sept. 6, reopened the bleeding wound of the bullets that silenced the voices of journalism. Paraguay has 20 journalists and communicators murdered in the democratic era, in the course of 30 years. This is the figure of the criminal attempt to silence free expression and freedom of the press in the country.

To build from this sad situation, the newspaper La Nación conducted interviews with some of the representatives of journalists' unions. They agreed with a concern about the lack of security in the practice of journalism, and especially the protection for those who denounce threats and intimidation."
