"Before the Supreme Court, the Association of Journalists of Guatemala (APG, for its acronym in Spanish) publicly denounced criminalization of journalists, who are targeted with arrest warrants and criminal proceedings, based on a 'whimsical' application of the organized crime law that violates the constitutional protection of freedom of expression.
For its part, Human Rights Watch called on the governments of the United States, the European Union and Latin America to 'remain vigilant and condemn attempts to reverse the results of the 2023 presidential elections and to persecute opposition leaders and human rights defenders.'"
