“Guatemalan authorities reinforced security at a prison on Monday [June 3] in the face of press reports of a possible plan to attack journalist José Rubén Zamora, sent to prison during the last government on charges of money laundering, in a case that caused international concern.
The version of the possible attack was published on Sunday [June 2] by the digital media outlet eP Investiga, made up of journalists who worked for the newspaper elPeriódico, founded by Zamora and which closed after his arrest.
'Confidential sources said that members of the "Pacto de Corruptos" (an alliance of conservative politicians and businessmen) are plotting an assassination against the journalist,' held in a prison inside the Mariscal Zavala military barracks in the capital, the media outlet said."
