Guatemalan court revokes house arrest of journalist José Rubén Zamora

“Guatemalan journalist Jose Rubén Zamora made a statement Friday, Nov. 15, on the decision of an Appeals Court that revoked his substitute measures of house arrest and ordered him to return to prison within 48 hours, a decision that he questioned because, in his opinion, the arguments used to revoke the previous measures are not valid.

The founder of elPeriódico is aware that there are great probabilities that he will return to prison, but in spite of that, he said that he is prepared to face whatever comes. He said that he felt calm and serene and that he would wait for the authorities to come to pick him up at his residence.

‘May my case serve to put an end to the arbitrariness and abuses of the established powers. Here they will find me, I have already accepted my destiny, whatever it is, and here I am waiting for what they decide to do,’ Zamora said.”
