Hialmar Laynes Sánchez, accused of harassing and threatening at least five journalists in Peru, was handed a five-year suspended prison sentence on Aug. 2. A suspended sentence in the Peruvian judicial system means that he will not have to serve time in jail as long as he follows certain rules.
In this case, Sánchez will not be able to leave the country or communicate in any way with the complainants, among other provisions. In addition, he must pay 3,000 soles (about US $800) for civil reparation to the Public Prosecutor's Office of the Judiciary.
On her Instagran account, Ximena Calderón, one of the complainants, rejected Sánchez's release and said his hearing was scheduled without the defense being notified, as reported by Infobae.
