"In the last ten days, at least four journalists in Tegucigalpa and San Pedro Sula have received death threats through platforms and social media. The increase in threats and intimidation against journalists and media outlets is produced by unknown persons who have said to be against the opinions issued and the work of these communicators.
Information released by the chapter of the College of Journalists (CPH-SPS, by its Spanish acronym) in northern Honduras reveals that [among the affected] journalists, a man and a woman, have received repeated death threats through intimidating messages on social media and through messaging applications on their mobile devices. These are strong threats, and not only to them, but also to their families," said an official communication from the CPH in Cortés.
It transpires that, in one of the cases, the journalist colleague had to be relocated to a safe house with her partner and children, as the threatening messages received mentioned that they had already identified her husband's workplace and route, and they also knew about her children and the school where they study."
