“The Inter-American Press Association (IAPA) on Tuesday [June 10] demanded that Venezuela immediately release three journalists from the South American country ‘detained for reporting’ over the past two months in ‘a context of growing repression against the independent press.’

In a statement, the Miami-based organization 'strongly' condemned  the 'forced disappearance and subsequent arbitrary detention' of journalist Carlos Marcano, and of reporter Nakary Mena Ramos and her husband, cameraman Gianni González, arrested 'for carrying out their reporting work.'

'These cases reflect how the justice system is used as an instrument of censorship. Venezuela must cease these repressive practices and comply with international standards regarding freedom of expression and due process,' said Martha Ramos, chair of the IAPA's Press Freedom and Information Committee."
