“After two years and nine months of legal proceedings, justice is finally being served for journalist Marco Aurelio Ramírez Hernández. The judge presiding over the case issued a guilty verdict against Jesús N. and Francisco N., accused of aggravated intentional homicide, said the victim’s daughter, Diana Luisa Ramírez, indicating that the motive for the crime was her father’s journalistic investigation into criminal gangs operating in this region [Tehuacán, Puebla state].
But there is still a way to go; the next procedural step will be the individualization of the sentence, in which the judge will determine the length of the sentence and the corresponding accessory penalties for those responsible.
Diana Luisa explained that, as the grieving family, they are requesting the maximum sentence of 50 years, but that depends on the judge. Furthermore, they anticipate that the defendants' legal team will appeal, so the process could last up to two years."
