"The Council for Democratic Transition in Cuba, CTDC for its initials in Spanish, has urged exiled Cubans, the European Union, and international press freedom organizations to establish a fund to sustain independent journalism on the island.
Amid a freeze on foreign aid from the U.S. Agency for International Development, or USAID, which has affected Cuba’s independent media, the council said "the time has come to take action and make the necessary effort" to raise resources to support free press in Cuba.
'Silencing or abandoning independent journalism in Cuba means leaving the country in the dark,' the CTDC said in a statement, emphasizing that the free press 'is the means to look toward the future, prosperity, and an open world.' "
