“The phenomenon of journalism in exile has expanded in recent years as a result of the growing repression against press freedom in Latin America. Faced with this reality, the Inter American Press Association (IAPA) decided to prioritize the protection and support of journalists forced to leave their countries.During the IAPA's Mid-Year Meeting, senior members of the organization analyzed the situation of journalists who were forced to leave their countries and strategies to keep their voices active. Roberto Rock, founder and director of La Silla Rota and former president of the IAPA, explained that although the IAPA had previously shown concern for this phenomenon, in recent years it has been able to 'systematize a more solid program' to accompany displaced journalists."
