“The Nicaraguan government detained a journalist after he reported on a television channel about increases in food prices, the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) denounced this Thursday [Nov. 14].
'The Nicaraguan government must immediately release Canal 23 journalist Elsbeth D'Anda, who was arrested on October 27 after reporting on the increasing cost of basic food necessities in his TV program,' CPJ said on its X account.
'It's unacceptable to imprison journalists for just doing their job. Silencing the messenger will not silence the message,' CPJ added.
D'Anda directs the program La Cobertura on Channel 23.
According to the Nicaraguan media outlet La Prensa, published in Costa Rica, 'at least five patrol cars and about 20 agents' went to look for the journalist at his home."
