"The journalist Ronald Moya asked the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (CourtIDH) on Monday Feb. 14 to dictate a sentence against Costa Rican because of the application of a civil sanction by the courts against him, a colleague and the newspaper La Nación, for crimes against honor following the publication of a news article.
'I hope the Court requests this sentence be annulled because, while in force, the safety of journalists in Costa Rica is at stake. But mainly the safety of many independent news outlets that survive through great financial efforts and with professional journalists who report on matters of enormous public interest,' Moya said in a hearing before the Inter-American Court."
