"The deputy director of Global Mexico, Cayetano de Jesús Guerrero, was killed on Friday [Jan. 17] night by armed men while he was in the parking lot of the San Antonio parish, in the center of Teoloyucan, State of Mexico.
Following the events, ARTICLE 19 reported that the journalist had received threats at his home on January 13 from a criminal group, which led to him being placed under protective measures.
In addition, it explained that Cayetano de Jesús Guerrero, as part of Global Mexico, was a beneficiary of protection measures from the Protection Mechanism for Human Rights Defenders and Journalists. In light of this, ARTICLE 19 urged the Mechanism to coordinate with the authorities of the State of Mexico to guarantee the safety of his family and colleagues."
