Journalist federation criticizes Paraguayan president’s role in inter-American press assembly, citing 'hostilities' against media in the country

The Federation of Journalists of Latin America and the Caribbean has criticized the prominent role of Paraguay President Santiago Peña in the Inter-American Press Association (IAPA) Assembly, which will be held in Argentina, citing hostilities against journalists and media outlets in his country.

The international summit will take place from Oct. 17 to 20 in Córdoba, Argentina. Peña is scheduled to address the relationship between the decline of democracy, the freedom of speech, media sustainability and the challenges posed by artificial intelligence.

The journalist federation expressed concern that Peña's participation is happening "despite repeated attacks on freedom of expression by sectors of power."
