Journalist Lydia Cacho rebukes ruling acquitting former commander of her torture

"[Mexican] journalist Lydia Cacho reproached the Mexican judiciary for acquitting the former commander of the former Attorney General's Office of Puebla, Juan Sánchez Moreno, one of her alleged torturers.

As MILENIO reported on July 7, a Federal Court determined that ‘there is no evidence’ to prove that the former commander committed or participated in the crime of torture against the journalist.

Journalist Lydia Cacho was arrested on Dec. 16, 2005 by members of the Judicial Police of the state of Puebla in Cancun, Roo [Mexico] and was taken to the capital of Puebla by land. In that detention, the journalist was tortured for at least 23 hours, where she was the victim of psychological violence, which would be proven later on."
