"There is shock in the Antioquia community and the journalism community following the murder of journalist María Victoria Correa, which occurred on Friday, March 28, in the municipality of Envigado [in the Colombian department of Antioquia].
The 70-year-old journalist was in a bakery when she was approached by two armed men. One of them initially tried to shoot her, but his weapon misfired. The other man entered the scene and fired his weapon at Correa and her sister, María Norelia Correa, 75, who also died in the crime.
Authorities began the investigation that same Friday. The preliminary investigation […] leads, for now, to the possible involvement of a man close to the victims. He is believed to be a 17-year-old boy who was involved in a financial dispute. The Prosecutor's Office and the police have not officially confirmed this version […]. According to the newspaper El Colombiano, Correa's murder has nothing to do with the journalistic work she carried out for much of her life."
