Journalist Pedro Pablo Kumul is murdered in Veracruz; 17 press members have been killed in Mexico so far in 2022

"Journalist and broadcaster Pedro Pablo Kumul was murdered on Mon. Nov. 21 in El Castillo, a town in Xalapa, in the state of Veracruz [Mexico], as confirmed by the news website where he worked, AX Noticias. The murder of the reporter adds to 16 other homicides counted by Article 19, an organization that defends press freedom in Mexico, since the beginning of 2022. [...] The state [of Veracruz] is the territory in which the most journalists have been murdered this year. Kumul's death is the fourth fatal attack suffered by a journalist after the attacks on José Luis Gamboa, on Jan. 15, and Yessenia Mollinedo and Sheila Johana García, murdered on May 9.

The incident took place on Monday afternoon, when, according to local media, [Kumul] was shot several times while driving the cab in which he also worked. Kumul's body was found lifeless inside the vehicle, which ended up crashing into a pole."
